About Klamath County

Klamath County covers 5,944 square miles in the volcanic Cascade Mountains in southern Oregon. Evergreen forests blanket the mountain slopes, and grasslands and fields cover valleys and canyons. Numerous lakes are found in the county, including famous Crater Lake, occupying the collapsed cone of an ancient volcano.

Klamath County was organized in 1882 with the county seat at Klamath Falls. As of the year 2000, there are 63,775 people living in the county.

U.S. Highway 97 traverses the county north to south and Oregon Highway 140 crosses it east to west.
